A five-day online Faculty Development Programme on ‘Apparel Design’ is being organized by Amity School of Fashion Technology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh. Sponsored by AICTE Training And Learning (ATAL) Academy, participants of this FDP are the faculty members of the AICTE approved institutions, research scholars, PG Scholars, participants from Government, Industry (Bureaucrats/Technicians/Participants from Industry etc.)
The inaugural session was attended by Guest of Honor Mr. Ram Sareen, Chairman and Founder Tukatech Los Angeles, CA U.S.A; Mr. Lalit Thukral, President Noida Apparel Export Cluster & Founder Maharana of India; Ms Krishna Mehta, Celebrated Fashion Designer; Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson ASFT, ASFA, ASPA & Co Patron FDP; Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla,Vice Chancellor, AUUP & Patron FDP and Prof (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Director General, Amity Directorate of Applied Arts / Fine Arts /Performing Arts / Visual Arts & Chairperson FDP.
Ms. Divya Chauhan mentioned that the hallmark of any profession is learning. She highlighted the integral role online teaching & learning has played during this pandemic and added how Amity University has been organizing such programmes for teachers to provide them with information about the current business changes and development so that they can prepare the students as per the expectations of the industry.
Mr. Ram Sareen shared his life experience and the sources of his success. He highlighted the relevance of hands-on practical learning for students, which encourages their creativity and skills. He further stated on how important the role of a teacher is in the development of any student and the need for teachers to constantly update themselves by participating in such development programmes.
Mr. Lalit Thukral shared his experiences in the Fashion industry and the contribution of Apparel Clusters. He also mentioned about the opportunities that the Indian apparel industry has been able to identify in this time of pandemic.
Ms. Krishna Mehta said that everyone has lots of expectations from the young professionals of the fashion world and teachers should understand what qualities the present fashion industry wants in these young professionals and prepare the students accordingly.
Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla welcomed the gathering and stated the role & importance of industry-academia partnership in shaping the future citizens and professionals.
The address by the guests revolved around Apparel design and the changes which have happened in the Fashion apparel industry in the past few decades. Speakers also shared their views on the impact of COVID on Fashion Industry, the road ahead and the prospects for Indian Fashion /Retail / Design/ Export Industry post COVID. Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi also asked the guests to elaborate upon the kind of resources and talent required to overcome this goal.
Faculty participants from various institutes around the country had many queries related to the future of Global Apparel Industry, career options post COVID and what industry expects out of the students. They wanted to understand as to how the Indian Apparel Industry is currently functioning and preparing for future challenges. All the speakers gave a very definite and optimistic view of the scenario. Vote of thanks was presented by Ms Smita Bagai (Associate Professor ASFT& FDP Coordinator).
