Four scientists from Amity University have secured their place in top 2% of global researchers from India in a list compiled by Stanford University, USA. Led by Dr John PA Ioannidis, a team of Scientist at Stanford University, USA, after assessing the scientist from across the world for their contributions in terms of citations, hm-index, co-authorship-adjusted h-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator created a list from data collected up to 2019 and published in PLOS Biology, a highly acclaimed journal.
The scientists having bagged this coveted position include Dr. Ajit Varma, Dr. Dattatray Late, Dr. Ajay Gupta, and Dr. D K Awasthi, (who was associated with the University until September 2019). Dr. Dattatray Late, Dr. Ajay Gupta, and Dr. D K Awasthi have been ranked 1135, 4000 and 1105 respectively for their work in Applied Physics. Dr Ajit Varma, who has been very active in Plant Biology research, secured 916 rank.
Dr. Ajit Varma who is currently serving as Director General, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (Amity University, Uttar Pradesh) and Vice chairman, Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation has special interest in mycorrhizal fungi and their biotechnological applications. Rootonic – The Magic Fungus (Piriformospora indica) was discovered by Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Varma and his colleagues from Thar Deserts of Western India in 1992 from the root system of several xerophytic plants.
Dr. Varma has published over 285 research articles, in national and international journals of repute, and several major review articles and book chapters. He has published more than 30 books in Microbial Technology published by Academic Press (London), CRC Press (USA), IDRC (Canada) and Springer-Verlag (Germany). Dr. Varma is a recipient of many International Scientific Fellowships such as Commonwealth fellowship (Australia), national Research Council (Canada), Alexander Von-Humboldt Foundation (Germany) etc.
Dr. Ajay Gupta is currently serving as Director, Amity Centre for Spintronic Materials. His research interest lies in Spintronic materials, including multilayer nanostructures exhibiting Gian Magnetoresistance, Tunnel Magnetoresistance, Exchange Bias; soft and hard magnetic thin films; multiferroic materials, Nano-patterning using self-assembly and specially in Synchrotron and Neutron based materials characterisation. Dr. Ajay Gupta has published more than 350 research papers in international peer reviewed and indexed journals.
Dr. Dattatrey Late, is currently serving as Head of Centre of Excellence at Amity University Mumbai, is a young and enthusiastic Scientist with special interest in Nanomaterials, Photolithography, Nanofabrication, Spectroscopy, Microscopy, field emission, energy storage and generation devices. Dr Late started his research career from North western University (USA) and JNCASR (Bangalore, India). He has already published more than 250 research publications in high impact factor journals and has completed several major research projects funded by Government funding agencies and industry in the areas of Nanotechnology.
