Amity Academic Staff College in association with Amity University's Natural Resources and Environmental Science Domain are organizing a five days FDP on the theme "Modern Progress in Sustainable Environment and Conservation Strategies" from May 17 to May 21, 2021.
Dr. Varun Narayan Mishra, Assistant Professor Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur Rajasthan addressing the participants said, “ The global urban population was 34 percent in 1960, which rose to 54 percent in 2014 and is likely to rise to 66 percent in 2050, this increasing population has led to growth in the global economy and increasing urbanization”. He referred to urban sprawl versus urban development, stating that urban sprawl is a part of urban development, sprawl is based on development. Urban sprawl is more complex because it is not merit-based like urban development. Dr. Mishra said that urban degradation has negative effects on environmental degradation and social degradation, therefore it is necessary to have knowledge of different types of usage of land before initiating the permanent Habitat scheme. In addition, he provided information about the benefits of earth inspection technology, effective use of land use and land cover, land change model, etc.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. S.P. Singh, Director, Amity School of Natural Resources & Sustainable Development Amity University Uttar Pradesh said, “India is a densely populated country. We are the 17th mega diverse nation in the world with a diverse landscape. A large ecosystem is available with a wide variety of climatic, edaphic and topographic conditions, therefore it is imperative to understand and plan policies accordingly”.
During the FDP, various topics like Sustainable Urban Planning: Challenges and solutions; Creating community partnership for conversation through traditional handicraft & handloom livelihoods, Forest & people, Recent advancement in environmental sustainability and conservation strategies, Sustainable farming: A model for Tomorrow amongst others will be discussed.
