Amity Academic Staff College organized a five-day faculty development program from June 01 to June 05 on the topic “Advances in Teaching and Research in the Field of Green Technology and UN Sustainable Development Goals ".
Ms. Chaitali Das, Social Entrepreneur - Jute revivalist, Global Chairperson & Managing, Trustee, Rakshak Foundation called upon society to take care of nature even in times of epidemic and increase use of jute instead of plastic, which does not harm nature. Ms. Das outlined the works of Rakshak Foundation where in they help in developing the skills of women, youth, disabled people, migrants, etc. by training them. Training in making products through jute helps in fulfilling many of the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals such as dignified living, environmental protection, gender equality, eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, sustainable consumption and production etc.
Dr S P Singh, Director, Amity School of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development while addressing the overview and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in India, said that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals made by the United Nations are the new goals of humanity. 193 countries of the world are committed to complete 169 tasks under 17 goals. All goals are intertwined and mainly divided into four parts social goals, environment, economy, development of peace, and cooperation. Strategies are being formulated at the national level to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Many plans help in fulfilling various sustainable development goals such as Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Sustainable Development Goals are related to good health and wellness, gender equality, and clean energy. Like Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Mission Indradhanush, Integrated Child Development Service and National Health Mission are proving helpful in fulfilling the goal of good health and wellness. Dr Singh said that only project or planning will not work, but result-based monitoring is necessary. Describing the status of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in India, he talked about the challenges in fulfilling them: large population, limited resources, implementation, attitude, awareness, uncertainty, political will, and corruption and called upon finding solutions.
Speaking on the topic, Sustainable Practice – Adapting Luxury Hotels for Sustainability as CSR, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Joint Coordinator, Amity School of Design said the sustainable design adopted by the hotel should be eco-friendly and conform to the standard. Sustainable hotels must adopt green best practices to reduce their environmental impact in the maintenance of service, logistics, products, and supplies.
During the Five day Programme, eminent speakers such as Dr. Chirashree Ghosh, Professor, University of Delhi, Mr. Leonardo Piccinetti, EU Climate Pact Ambassador, Warrington, England, United Kingdom; Ms. Pramila Thapa, Advisor to Yeti Health, Sciences Academy, Nepal, Former Registrar & Member Secretary of Senate in Purbaanchal University, Bagmati, Nepal; Dr. S. S Samant, Director, Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Conifer Campus, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh will share their views and enlighten the participants.
