Amity University celebrates International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm

 

Amity University Uttar Pradesh celebrated International Yoga Day by conducting a special Yoga Session for its students, faculty and staff, at its campus. The aim of International Yoga Day is to spread awareness about the invaluable benefits of Yoga and encourage the people to make Yoga an integral part of their lives. This year the International Yoga Day celebrations across the country hold special significance as the nation celebrates 75 Years of Independence under the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Prof. (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh averred, “The importance of yoga cannot be overlooked and especially during the recent years, Yoga has attained immense popularity, not only in India but across the world as people have started realizing the great significance of a healthy body and mind. Through yoga, not only the body but the mind and soul are also brought in harmony which takes care of the overall well-being of an individual. Amity has also collaborated with AYUSH Ministry to promote research in Ayurvedic Sciences as people are more inclined towards adopting traditional medical practices, now.”

 

Speaking about the significance of Yoga, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Yoga Instructor, Amity Institute of Indian System of Medicine, said, “Yoga is a physical activity consisting of asanas, often accompanied by breathing exercises and usually ending with a period of relaxation or meditation. Apart from making an individual physically fit and healthy, Yoga also helps in attaining the perfect equilibrium and harmony, promotes self-healing, removes negativity and toxins from the body and mind, enhances self-awareness, increases concentration and focus, and reduces stress and tension in the body.” Mr. Sandeep Kumar led the Yoga Protocol Session and taught the various “Aasanas” including “Bhujangasana”, “Vakrasana”, “Kapalabhati” and “Pranayam” amongst many more asanas, which refreshed the bodies and minds of the participants.

The International Yoga Day celebrations concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Vinamra Sharma, Assistant Professor, Amity Institute of Indian System of Medicine and singing of the National Anthem. The students, staff and faculty of Amity participated in the celebration, in large numbers.
