Two-day International Conference on “Role of Molecular Chemistry in Drug Design and Development” held at Amity

Amity Institute of Click Chemistry Research and Studies (AICCRS) and Drug Discovery and Development (DDD) Cluster, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, have organized a Two-Day International Conference on "Role of Molecular Chemistry in Drug Design & Development" from 29 June to 30 June 2022, in Hybrid Mode.

Inaugurating the conference, Chief Guest, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Former Minister, stated, “In view of the current scenario around the world, there are a lot of expectations, specially from the young budding scientists, to discover new technologies and methodologies for combatting the unforeseen challenges faced by the world including the COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore, the quest for knowledge and discovery must never end, it should be a continuous process through which new territories must be explored. India needs to be self -sufficient in all aspects, including the pharmaceutical industry and it has already proved to the world how well we have faced the pandemic with new medicines, vaccines and drugs which have been developed by Indian scientists.” He further advised the researchers of Molecular Chemistry to make the best use of knowledge of the faculty and facilities provided by the University.

Speaking about the role of Moecular Chemistry in Drug Design Development, Keynote Speaker, Prof. Jun-Jie Zhu, Professor, Nanjing University, China, averred, “Molecular Chemistry is an important area of research, especially when it comes to drug development. The rapid advancement of nanotechnology which includes molecular chemistry, will lead to a paradigm shift from conventional approaches to problem-driven research. The process of developing new molecules and formulations must continue since Chemistry is increasingly becoming an interdisciplinary area, which will result in generation of tremendous opportunities for drug discovery and development.”

Guest of Honor, Dr. Praveen Khullar, Executive Director, VerGo Pharma Research Laboratories, Verna, Goa, said, “Research and innovation go hand in hand and are major contributors in the economic prosperity and development of a country. Rare diseases require the development of special molecules which means that new technologies must be learnt, adapted and mastered. Through collaboration between various organizations and institutions, innovative solutions can be found for existing problems and all kinds of threats and challenges can be addressed.”

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Monalisa Mukherjee, Director, Amity Institute of Click Chemistry Research and Studies (AICCRS), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said,

“The conference aims to connect the basic principles of molecular chemistry with drug design and development. It also emphasizes on developing multidisciplinary specializations for making students industry-ready and will help the researchers in development of new research ideas beneficial for drug design and development.”

At the Inaugural Session, “Souvenir cum Scientific Abstracts” was also released which comprised of information regarding various topics and themes which will be covered during the conference. During the two-day conference, various insightful Scientific sessions on different themes, such as “Nanoarchitectured Electrochemical Biosensors for the Detection of Tumor Cells and Biomarkers”, “Functional Nanobiomaterials in Bioengineering”, “Rational Identification of Therapeutics for COVID-19 Strains with Lethal Outcomes” and “Applications of PROTAC Technology in Modern Drug Discovery”, will be conducted amongst others.
