Amity Law School, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh has organized a One-Week Inter-Disciplinary Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Constitutional Jurisprudence and Democratic Institutions – Instruments of Social Engineering' from 30th June -6th July 2022.
Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Aman Hingorani, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, averred, “21st Century has seen a rapid change in the political, legal, social, and economic structure of the society. This growth has challenged the set Constitutional understanding of fundamental rights, duties and role of political and legal institutions. The changing norms of gender rights, interface of customary law and legal rights, duties of the state in elimination of poverty, securing financial justice and the growing challenges of the digital era are continuously pushing towards evolving Constitutional jurisprudence and democratic institutions, especially in the context of various transformative judgments pronounced by Indian Judiciary. Therefore, the constitution must adapt to changing requirements of the citizens, from time to time. The context of judgement is also very important and citizens should not only study the judgement but should also understand the constitution thoroughly along with the court’s jurisdiction.”
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Priyanka Walesha, Head- Legal, YUM, said, “Different problem areas, including the emerging challenges to Constitutional ideology and factors responsible for establishing a peaceful and vibrant democracy, must be explored. Examining the conceptual and philosophical foundation of Constitution and its role in shaping the society is also extremely essential. One must be aware of the recent developments, emerging challenges to Constitution and the inherent conflicts involved with implementation of constitutional rights in achieving socio-political objectives. Digitization has led to adopting new mechanisms of making the legal process and procedures more interesting. However, at the same time, the increased use of technology raises questions regarding the fundamental rights of citizens. Therefore, the misuse of technology must be curbed, and technology should be used only within the ambit of law.”
Welcoming the guests, Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law Schools, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, said, “The main objective of this Faculty Development Programme is to understand and explore the foundations, evolution, dimensions, and challenges to Indian Constitutional with the ever-transforming society. It is designed to bring academicians and researchers from various disciplines around the globe to a common platform for exchanging and sharing the latest development and upcoming challenges to Constitutionalism. Through this Programme, the participants will not only gain extensive knowledge and perspectives in this field but will also be successful in grappling with the various nuances of this concept.”
During the seven- day Programme various sessions on themes such as “Evolving contours of Constitution”, “Constitutionalism and Constitutional Morality”, “Majoritarianism and Judicial intervention”, “Different facets of the Constitution including human rights and Fundamental Duties” and “Human Rights and Social Justice Emerging trends in Gender rights”, will be conducted, amongst others by eminent luminaries of the legal profession.
