Amity University conferred with the Academic Leadership Award at the 9th Agricultural Leadership Conclave 2019

 Amity University made yet another breakthrough in the field of academia when it was bestowed upon with the prestigious Academic Leadership Award during the 9th Agricultural Leadership Conclave 2019 held in New Delhi.

Amity University has been diligently working in the field of agriculture and allied sectors to enhance the learning experiences of its students. Over the years, the university has made some major breakthroughs and has produced some astonishing results, as a result of which it was gained the privilege of receiving the honor.  Amity has been persistent in facilitating research in frontier areas of agriculture. Amity offers an interdisciplinary environment to the faculties and PhD scholars to develop low-cost technologies for the benefit of the Indian farmers.

The University has been in the forefront in facilitating an environment to nurture valuable professional human resource in the area of plant and agricultural science to deal with crucial issues such as food security, eco- friendly and sustainable agriculture, nutritional security etc. With a gamut of courses ranging from graduate, post-graduate to diploma courses in Agriculture, Biotechnology, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Food Technology, Herbal Science, Microbial Technology, Foods & Nutrition, Agri-business, Environmental Management, Agronomy etc.  Amity has ensured a steady flow of highly qualified and able professional workforce to man the agriculture sector.  Amity’s interdisciplinary research in the fundamental and applied aspect of plant science and agriculture with strong focus on innovation has left an indelible impact on the farming community and society.

 The high-profile event witnessed eminent personalities and leaders in the field of agriculture, academia, politics, law and corporate firms, including Justice P. Sathasivam, Hon’ble Governor of Kerela, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare. Professor Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University and Dr. Nutan Kaushik, Director-General of the Amity Food & Agriculture Foundation (AFAF) amongst others.  

 

Addressing the audience during the event, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, said that people who have received the awards have worked tirelessly and in the field of agriculture and these awards are given in order to encourage people working on different pedestals of agriculture. He apprised that there was a time when India was heavily dependent upon other countries for food and other resource. However, the collective efforts of the government, agriculture scientists and farmers over the past few years led to Green Revolution through which we became agriculturally independent. He said that, “Today, our focus is that farmers must get genuine wages for their produce. All our ideas, efforts and policies must now become wage-centric rather than production-centric.”

 Congratulating the award winners, Justice P. Sathasivam, Hon’ble Governor of Kerela said that in the current scenario India has not only become a giant producer of several crops but has also become the chief exporter of various agricultural goods. He averred that when we talk about the stabilization of any economy, Food Security becomes extremely essential. He encouraged the researchers involved in agriculture to work on new ideas, research and innovation.

 Receiving the award with great humility, Prof. Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University said, “I am delighted to receive this award on behalf the Amity Education Group.” She apprised that Amity has consistently been working in the areas of academics and research facilitation and encouragement.” She remarked that agriculture forms the backbone of any economy and therefore we need to strengthen our farmers both technically and economically. She expressed that this award for academic excellence has encouraged us to work with more zeal, passion and enthusiasm.
