Amity University hosted the visit of Dr. M.N Janardhanan, Co-ordinator – Engineering Management Research, University of Leicester, U.K today wherein he talked about the area of research “Manufacturing System Optimization.” He also spoke about higher education opportunities in U.K and explored possible areas of collaboration with Amity University.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Janardhanan initially apprised about the University of Leicester and its rankings at the global level. He apprised that the University of Leicester had multiple International collaboration in research including the NISCO U.K Research Centre and TWI Centre. He said that Engineering Management (MeM) is one such course in the University of Leicester which aims at honing the management skills of engineers and it acts as an asset for students belonging to technical backgrounds.
Dr. Janardhanan also talked about his project – “The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Scheduling in Indoor Environment” that aims at flying a UAV indoors for task automation and utilization. He apprised that the key purposes of the drones are image capturing and material handling. These drones, when ready for commercialization, could prove to be very helpful at construction sites and in cities for inspection. However, safety becomes a major issue with these kinds of indoor drones. He told that “The primary purpose of his project is to create a drone which uses minimum battery power and works with maximum efficiency.”
Addressing the audience, he averred that, “We would be happy to collaborate with Amity in the area of research and student-exchange programmes.” He also apprised about the various funding bodies like the Royal Academy of Engineering, Global Challenge Research Fund, UKERI funding and SPARC through which this collaboration could be facilitated.
Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Director- General, Amity Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation Alliances (AFSTIA) said that Amity’s collaboration with the University of Leicester would be a great opportunity for students to explore newer areas and apply their minds in the area of engineering research with searching for commonality being the key for collaboration.
