Delegation from University of Queensland visits Amity University
A high-level delegation from University of Queensland (UoQ), Australia visited Amity University Noida campus to expand its existing collaborations with Amity University in the fields of Engineering and Management and explore other domains. Proposals in the domains of Biotechnology and Food Technology were deliberated upon between Dr. Nutan Kaushik, DG, AFAF, Dr. V. K. Modi, Head, AIFT and Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon, Dir, AIB with Prof Avril Robertson (Director, UoQ Biotechnology Program) and Prof Jimmy Botella, School of Agriculture and Food Science, University of Queensland.
Research possibilities and joint program development opportunities were also deliberated upon between Amity university officials and the delegation. Professor Aleksandar Rakic, Associate Dean (External Engagement), Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and IT and Professor Vicki Chen, Executive Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and IT held an interactive session with ASET students along with Dr. Abhay Bansal, Joint Head, Amity School of Engineering & Technology (ASET). Students were informed about the future opportunities at University of Queensland. “We are looking to create globally competitive engineers as the nature of being an engineer is undergoing a drastic change. Single discipline engineering students are rare,” avered Professor Vicki Chen.
Professor Aleksandar Rakic gave brief insight to the students on the courses and scholarships on offer at UoQ. “We would like to work together with some of the best universities in India and Amity is definitely one of them,” said Professor Rakic. Engineering students under the four-year programme can join the Masters of Engineering programme at UoQ after 3.5 years.
Professor Rakic also informed how students will be able to acquire both a 4-year degree from Amity University and also a Masters degree from UoQ through this initiative, and the most qualified students can avail scholarships based on their academic performance.
The visiting delegation also had Professor Geoff McColl, Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Professor Alan Rowan, Director, Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology; Professor Louise Hickson, Associate Dean (External Engagement), Faculty of Health and Behavioral Sciences; Dr Abishek Iyer, UQ Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Institute for Molecular Bioscience; Professor Avril Robertson, School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (research area: medicinal chemistry, biotechnology, drug development, inflammation; and Director of the UQ Biotechnology program); Professor Jimmy Botella, School of Agriculture and Food Science (research area: basic cell biology and applied biotechnology) and Ms Siyu Wang, Senior International Strategist, Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship engaged in interactive sessions with faculty members.
