Electric Vehicle is the Solution to Tackle Air Pollution

Considering the significant contribution of Electric Vehicles towards pollution control and various rebates provided by the Government to encourage and promote use of Electric Vehicles, a demonstration and exposition on electrical vehicles was organized at Amity University, Noida.

The event primarily intended to spread awareness and promote usage of electric vehicles amongst the students, faculty members & staff by highlighting the benefits of Electric Vehicles and the initiatives taken by the Government of India to promote these vehicles. An e-02 wheeler and e-04 wheeler vehicles were also made available for test drive for faculty members and staff within the campus.

“Pollution and climate change is a global problem and the primary cause behind this is the growing use of vehicles. We should, therefore, move towards adopting more and more electrical vehicles,” said Dr Anand Kumar Singh, Director, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Government of India. He also informed how the government has been taking measures in this regard and had launched ‘National Electric Mobility Mission Plan’ and tremendous amount of work is going on in this scheme. Use of such vehicles will not only protect the environment but also reduce the burden on the pockets of the common man due to use of expensive fuels.

As part of Electric Mobility Mission, Department of Heavy Industry formulated a Scheme viz. Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme to promote manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology and to ensure sustainable growth of the same.

The First Phase of FAME India Scheme was implemented through four focus areas namely, Demand Creation, Technology Platform, Pilot Project and Charging Infrastructure. Recently GST on EVs has been reduced to 5% from 12% and an additional income tax deduction of Rs 1.5 Lakh on interest paid on loans taken to buy EVs is also provided in order to encourage the adoption of EVs. An exhibition comprising of these vehicles was also put up that saw tremendous audience attendance and appreciation.
