14th Annual International Conference of English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI) Concludes at Amity University
Drawing curtains to the Golden Jubilee of the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI), Amity Institute of English Studies and Research (AIESR) organized a glittering Valedictory Ceremony of the 14th Annual International Conference of ELTAI at Amity University, Noida.
Chief Guest Shri Temjen Imna Along, Minister, Higher & Technical Education, Tribal Affairs, Nagaland, Kohima congratulated Amity University on influencing the lives of millions of young men and women by hosting this golden jubilee conference and inviting him to the ‘end of a new beginning’. “The influence of English in this country and the advantage of the English language being spoken, written and delivered by the Indian community throughout the world is known. We have an edge over China, Russia and over the other South East Asian countries because of the Indian English that is so popular all over the world. English has now become the Lingua Franca of the world,” said Shri Temjen Imna.
“The proceedings of this conference will surely be a good referral source and enable prominent experts from the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) to form linkages and bonds for mutual research benefits and further enable students as well as pedagogy exchange initiatives,” said Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, AUUP.
Celebrating the Right to English as its theme, the biggest annual academic event in the country for English language saw over 1500 delegates and scholars in the area of ELT including teachers, research scholars, administrators, and experts in the fields of Language Teaching, Literature, Culture Studies, Education and Linguistics come together and engage in deliberations on practical and theoretical aspects of English language teaching and also about the New India with Indianised English. ELT scholars from 20 different countries ranging from Brazil and Japan were part of this four-day mega event.
Discussions ranged on various sub-themes including Dichotomy of native and non-native varieties; Linguistic Jingoism; Death of Languages – Sad Stories; Global Language – Is there an Epicenter?; Global Language – A Growing Monopoly?; Right to English: Myth or Reality; Promise of Equity and Inclusiveness; Right to English – A Political Tool? An Economic Advantage?; Language Wars around the World; Global Language but Local Perspectives, and many more
The evening also saw distribution of awards under the categories of Honouring the Donor; Best Paper Awards; Amity International Literature Fest Awards and National Word Champion Awards. Also present on the occasion were Professor N Ramachandran, Pro-VC, Amity International University, Dubai, Mr Shool Pani, Chairman, India American Chamber of Commerce, , Dr Alok Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary (Evaluation & Meetings), Association of Indian Universities, Journalist Shailendra Mani Tripathi and other dignitaries, faculty members and students.
