Amity University organizes “Amity Yuvamanthan Model United Nations (AYMUN’24)”

 Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus organized the First Edition of “Amity Yuvamanthan Model United Nations- 2024 (AYMUN’24)” on the theme: "LiFE, Lifestyle For Environment”, from 12th to 13th September, 2024. The event aims to raise awareness about the impact of individual lifestyle choices on the planet and encourages eco-friendly habits.

                                                                                                                                     

Addressing the students, Mr. Hrithik Singh, Project Manager, United Nations Development Program, Executive Director- Empowerment by Capacity Building Sustainable Youth Foundation, averred, “India has a rich cultural heritage and has been the motherland of various civilizations. Our survival is deeply rooted in our environment, and we have been given and blessed with so much by mother nature. Therefore, it is our responsibility to protect our environment and embrace nature.”

 

Sharing her views on the occasion, Ms. Ilakkiya Karunakaran, DIG, National Human Rights Commission, stated, “The National Human Rights Commission has issued an Advisory to the Centre and the State Governments to prevent, minimise and mitigate impacts of Environmental Pollution and Degradation on Human Rights. The Advisory has focused on five key areas for action by the Centre and State Governments. These include punishment of polluters and violators of environmental laws, prevention and minimization of vehicular pollution, processing of proposals seeking approvals mandated by various environmental laws in an informed, transparent and non-partisan manner; measures required for development, promotion, propagation and replication of cost effective innovative measures to prevent, minimise and mitigate environmental pollution and degradation & strengthening and capacity building of local bodies. Such programs encourage the students to work for societal and national benefit and institutions like Amity are doing commendable work in this direction.”

 

Highlighting the significance of the Programme, Prof. (Dr). Sanjeev Bansal, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor AUUP, said, “AYMUN-2024 is a profound initiative focused on youth engagement and empowerment, typically aimed at fostering leadership, innovation and social responsibility among young people. This initiative is part of a larger effort supported by the University Grants Commission, in alignment with the national themes of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," "Amrit Kaal," and "Viksit Bharat." 

 

Dr. H.P Singh, Dean-Students’ Welfare, Amity University, said, “Amity Yuvamanthan Model United Nations’ (AYMUN) 2024 is an academic simulation of the United Nations, immersing students in the intricacies of international diplomacy, global governance, and UN operations. It offers a sophisticated platform for high-level debates, innovative solutions, unparalleled networking opportunities, resolution formulation and peer negotiations.”

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Laxmi Ahuja, Deputy Dean Students Welfare, AUUP and the Programme was attended by the faculty and students of Amity in large numbers.
