“Innovative Water Management Strategies crucial for Sustainable Development”, aver experts at Amity

Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences (AIES) and Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences (NRES) Domain, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), Noida Campus organized a Workshop on the Theme, “Accelerating Sustainable Development through Innovative Water Management Strategies”, to mark World Water Day. 

 

Addressing the students, Guest of Honour Dr Jagvir Singh, Scientist - G & Adviser, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), stated, “An interdisciplinary approach combined with the best innovative practices is crucial to find solutions to the problem of water conservation. There is a need to create more awareness and sensitize the masses about the depletion of natural resources. Students should participate in various activities and initiatives such as the Science Olympiad organized by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, so that they can enhance their knowledge and work on path-breaking technologies which can be used to address the challenges, thereby making a societal impact.”

 

Guest of Honour Mr. Sundeep, Scientist - F, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), GoI, averred, “Innovations and new techniques need to be developed by researchers for water conservation. There is a need to work on the solutions of water conservation and water purification. Policy initiatives by the government alone will not help, local communities need to take the initiative and work together proactively to achieve sustainable development. The corporates should collaborate with the Universities and institutions to address the challenges of water scarcity, cleanliness and conservation.”

 

Prof. D. K. Bandyopadhyay, Mentor, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences, stated, “Water is essential for survival of living beings on earth since there can be no life without water. Conjunctive use of surface and groundwater should be encouraged to alleviate the degradation of water and soil resources. Some of the methods of water conservation include Rainwater Harvesting, irrigation Management and Watershed Management. It is the responsibility of every citizen of the country to work on water problems, remove water pollution and ensure safe drinking water.”

 

Prof. S P Singh, Domain Head, Natural Resources & Environmental Science (NRES), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “The workshop is being organized with the aim to promote awareness about sustainable water management and environmental protection, thereby providing a platform to the students, for sharing knowledge and innovative strategies related to water conservation.”

 

Dr. Renu Dhupper, Assistant Director, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences welcomed the guests on this occasion. Poster Making and Photography Competitions for Students focusing on environmental and water-related themes such as water conservation, climate change, biodiversity protection, pollution control, and sustainable development.
