A high-level delegation from the prestigious Law Schools of USA, including Dr. Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs, University of Nevada Las Vegas , Dr. Maureen Tracy Leo, Associate Director, Boston University Office of Graduate and International Programs at Boston University School of Law, Dr. John Smagula, Assistant Dean, Temple University Beasley School of Law, Dr. Kara Galvin, Director, International and Graduate Programs, University of Minnesota Law, Dr. Gabrielle Goodwin, Director of Graduate Legal Studies at Indiana University Maurer School of Law and Dr. Mary Beth Busby, Director, Graduate and International Program Admissions at Northwestern University, Pritzker School of Law, visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida, to deliberate upon “Network Strategies for a Global cause.”
During the visit, the delegation took a round of the campus and interacted with hundreds of law students and faculty of Amity. They lauded the beautiful campus and the intellect of Amity students.
Emphasizing upon the importance of “Networking”, Dr. Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, said, “Students must start networking before they leave India. They must connect with the local attorneys to better understand the practice and the field. They must also familiarize themselves with the local law firms in their area. “
Sharing the mantras for being a good lawyer, Dr. Maureen Tracy Leo, Associate Director, International Programs at Boston University School of Law, stated, “Eye contact, a pleasant personality, good dressing, confidence and good communications, are the key aspects to bear in mind while networking.”
Speaking about the Indian students studying in USA, Dr. Leo stated, “Indian students are very dedicated, hardworking, sincere and do their job to the best of their ability.” Talking about how Indian students can also practice in USA, she suggested that Amity students can study a part of their program at their University and opt for studying the other semesters at US Universities which will provide them with better career opportunities. “However, this idea needs to be worked upon since this is just the beginning of the relationship, and we will continue to strengthen our partnership through various programs, in future.”, she added further.
Sharing his valuable guidance and words of wisdom, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group, averred, “Amity’s vision and commitment to provide the best education along with immense global exposure to the students. The visit of the delegation will add great value to the knowledge of the students and will help immensely in the growth of their career.” He expressed his ambition to have an exclusive set-up for the promotion of internationalization for Amity Law School students and PhD scholars, since presently more than 12,500 students are studying Law, including PhD, in different campuses of Amity in the country and also at Amity Dubai campus, the only Law school outside India.”
Deliberating upon “How to Network on LinkedIn”, Dr. John Smagula, Asst Dean, Temple University Beasley School of Law, opined, “One must make the profile on LinkedIn stand out and use the professional networking platform to connect with international industry experts.” He also shared tips on creating a good LinkedIn Profile.
Explaining about the “Elevator Pitch”, Dr. Kara Galvin, Director, International and Graduate Programs, University of Minnesota Law, stated, “The ‘Elevator Pitch’ is a brief introduction designed to make an impression on someone you are meeting for the first time and therefore, having a polished “Elevator Pitch” is extremely crucial. One must take time to create and rehearse it as it has a huge impact on the other person.”
Highlighting the “Networking opportunities while in the US”, Dr. Gabrielle Goodwin Director of Graduate Legal Studies at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, said, “Student organizations, practice area societies, professors, school events, Guest speakers, Alumni associations and internships are some of the key networking opportunities for the students while they are in the US, and they must utilize them to the fullest.”
Speaking about “Informational Interviews”, Dr. Mary Beth Busby, Director, Graduate, and International Program Admissions at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, stated, “Informational Interviews are not job interviews, fact- finding expedition, meeting to learn about the experience of someone working in a field or company that interests you, are the various components of informational interviews. “
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University, asserted, “Amity strongly believes in providing quality education along with global exposure to the students which enables them to get career opportunities, which are at par with the students of global Universities. Through its “Study Abroad Programs” and “Explore America” Program, Amity will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the students are exposed to a wide spectrum of career prospects. 85% of Amity students who opt for internships in the US have been absorbed by the US companies. The delegation also met Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, and talked about the possibility of Student Exchange Programmes, Twinning Programmes and Study Abroad Programmes, where US Law Schools and Amity Law School can collaborate and work together.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. D.K. Bandopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law School, and other senior faculty members of Amity University. The Programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session where details of the admission process in US Law Schools were shared by the delegates and felicitation of the esteemed guests.
