Dr. G Athithan, DRDO Chair, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Bengaluru and former DG, DRDO for Micro Electronic Device, Computer System, and Cyber Security, visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida Campus, to share his great insights and knowledge on “Artificial Intelligence” with the students of Amity.
Delivering the lecture, Dr. G Athithan, DRDO Chair, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Bengaluru, averred, “Artificial Intelligence is the ability of a machine to simulate human activities deemed to be intelligent, for eg., recognition of objects, speaking, playing games, planning etc. Whereas, Machine Learning is extracting and using knowledge from labelled data (data-driven approach) and Neural Networks are models of the human brain involving neurons, synaptic connections, thresholds etc., for its simulation. Many models of Neural Networks exist but the most dominant is the Deep Neural Network.”
Some of the lessons from past Artificial Intelligence seasons are that despite huge investment and efforts, Artificial Intelligence has not yet been able to address real world needs and it has been found to be fragile in the presence of noise and change. However, in the recent decade a few innovations have been made such as the “Rectified Linear Unit” and “Convolutional” and Maxpool Functions, which address these issues.”
He also explained about the various aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning including, “Computer Vision”, “Speech and Language Processing”, “Reinforcement Learning”, “Multi-layer Perceptors”, amongst others and emphasized upon the need for establishing big Data Centers to generate new technologies.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group, stated, “Science, Technology, Research and Innovation are the major focus areas at Amity since the world can only be transformed through research and innovation. It is extremely crucial to develop a scientific temperament amongst the students which can enable them to succeed in their career, thereby contributing to the scientific development of the nation and the world.”

The Lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A Session and the programme was attended by the Head of Institutions, Senior Faculty and students of Amity in large numbers.
