On National Science Day a lecture on ‘Outcome-based STEM education: Changing Roles of the Teachers’ was organized virtually by Amity Institute of Education wherein lecture was delivered by Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Sarma from Mewar University. He stated that in today’s world of education the educational material is the information or message, limited and expensive. In a lecture, students assume a purely passive role and their concentration fades off after 15-20 minutes. Teachers often talk for an hour without knowing the student's feedback or response. He also said that in coming times, a large variety of high-quality resources and learner-centric teaching will be the norm. Class size will increase, and knowledge will grow at a faster rate, whereas learning will be no longer a one- time on its own. Dr. Sarma sharing facts and said that India’s online education market is set to grow to USD 1.96 million and 9.96 million users in 2021 from USD 247 million and around 1.6 million users as a survey done by KPMG in 2017. Primary and Secondary supplemental education will have the biggest market size in the online education market. Addressing the challenges for the teachers he briefed that there is a need for continuous improvement in curricular, incorporation of better Open Educational Resources, more effective teaching to ensure STEM literate people and technical manpower. Ensure an examination system that reinforces teaching and learning. An outcome is a culminating demonstration of learning, it is what the student should be able to do at the end of a course. Outcome-based education is an approach to education in which decisions about the curriculum are driven by the exit learning outcomes that the students should display at the end of the course.
