Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), Noida, in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), hosted the Celebration of Science Week Delhi 2025, on the themesEarth & Environmental SciencesandHealth Sciences”. The annual initiative of INSA was organised with the aim to induct newly elected INSA Fellows, Associate Fellows, Foreign Fellows, and Young Associates and to honour outstanding contributions of Indian scientists to science, technology, and engineering.

The event was attended by a galaxy of eminent scientists, researchers and clinicians from renowned institutions across the country such as IISc Bengaluru, ISRO, the Birbal Sahni Institute, and Banaras Hindu University, National Institute of Advanced Studies, IISER Kolkata, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute(THSTI), International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology(ICGEB), National Brain Research Centre(NBRC), Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Tufts University (USA), Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), and IIT Jodhpur.

Highlighting the role of science in transforming the society, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Sharma, President, INSA, averred, “This event signifies the democratization of Science, which means that INSA is not just for seasoned scientists but will now include young scientists from Universities also, so that we can mutually learn from each other. INSA’s role is to connect the top minds to science, engineering and medicine and use scientific knowledge for socio-economic impact. The Policy Centre at INSA is driven by bright minds which propel advocacy and influence policy-makers so that they can make new policies, which can benefit the scientists and researchers. Rise of intelligent machines, connecting science to society, energy transition, inclusion and sustainability, are the challenges faced by science. Suggesting ways to combat the challenges, he said that invention, innovation and out-of-the-box thinking are the prerequisites for driving scientific development. Moreover, it is important to see everything critically, analyse it and find better ways of doing things.”

Emphasizing upon Amity’s Scientific Research initiatives, Dr. Atul Chauhan, President, RBEF and Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Amity University continues to play a pivotal role in advancing scientific innovation and strengthening India’s global leadership in research and development. It is Amity’s vision to nurture the next generation of scientists and innovators, who will play a significant role in nation building. Science, innovation and research is in the DNA of Amity and Amity fosters young researchers to create path-breaking innovations. India is fast moving towards becoming a developed economy, however, the need of the hour is to shift from being a service- nation to a product-nation. Indian institutions are facing challenges in terms of citations, the number of which are still less compared globally, a key indicator of research quality and impact. This gap needs to be filled by the young researchers.”

Addressing the scientists and researchers, Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Director- National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru, opined, “The prestigious celebration of Science Week-2025 at Amity University is a testimony to the commitment of higher education institutions to foster science and technology for the development of the nation. Such initiatives not only encourage young researchers to pursue transformational and socially relevant science but also highlight the role of synergy, and collaboration among all stakeholders to accelerate India’s research ecosystem.”

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “Amity is committed to pursue research excellence, sustainability science, and national capacity-building in frontline domains of science and technology. Amity’s scientific talent will contribute significantly to the national mission of Viksit Bharat@2047 through pioneering research in science and strategic global collaborations.”

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation stated, “INSA Science Week Celebration at Amity acts as a strong platform for driving collaborative research, national innovation, and capacity building in critical sectors of science, healthcare, and sustainability.”

During the day-long celebration, INSA Distinguished Lectures, Parallel Sessions on Health Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Round Table Scientific Discussions on Immunology, Neuroscience, cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders, Climate Science, Geoinformatics, Infectious Disease and Public Health were also organized. The celebration concluded with a Session for drawing the roadmap, marking the beginning of future joint initiatives including multi-institutional research projects, joint publications, student and faculty exchange programmes, amongst others.
