Amity University strengthens Biomedical Research through DHR Engagement

Mr. Sohail Ahmed Khan, Scientist B, Department of Health Research (DHR) felicitated by Dr B C Das, Dr S K Srivastava at Amity University

Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida campus hosted an interactive session by Mr. Sohail Ahmed Khan, Scientist B, Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, focused on schemes in Medical, Clinical, and Health Sciences under the Human Resource Development (HRD) initiatives.

 

Mr. Khan’s visit aimed to showcase Amity University’s robust research ecosystem, including its ongoing initiatives, advanced infrastructure, and capabilities in biomedical and health sciences. The interaction provided a valuable platform for faculty members and researchers to engage directly with DHR, gaining comprehensive insights into recently announced funding opportunities.

 

Providing detailed insights into fellowship opportunities, Mr. Sohail Ahmad Khan, stated, “The Human Resource Development Scheme of the Department of Health Research has been designed to build a strong pool of skilled health research professionals across the country. It focuses on enhancing the capabilities of faculty from medical colleges and institutions, mid-career scientists, and medical students, while also encouraging trainees to undertake research projects that address critical national and local health challenges. The scheme also provides financial assistance to institutions for the upgradation of infrastructure, enabling them to deliver training using state-of-the-art technologies.”

 

During the session, Mr. Khan outlined several key initiatives under the scheme, including the Short-Term Studentship Programme, Thesis Support Programme for MD/MS/DM/MCH/NB/MDS candidates, Biomedical Research Fellowship for scholars with non-medical backgrounds, Short-Term and Long-Term Fellowships under the Advanced Biomedical Research and Development (ABRAD) programme. He also highlighted the Women Scientist Fellowship, along with support mechanisms for institutions and scientific professionals, including start-up grants aimed at strengthening biomedical and health research capacity.

 

Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities, stated, “Amity University remains committed to fostering cutting-edge research in biomedical and health sciences. Engagements with esteemed organizations such as the Department of Health Research empower our faculty to contribute meaningfully to India’s evolving healthcare landscape.”

 

Presenting an overview of Amity’s R&D Ecosystem and Achievements, Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor Amity University, emphasized the significance of such interactions in enhancing institutional research capabilities and encouraging innovation-driven approach among faculty members.

 

Dr. B.C. Das, Dean – Health and Allied Sciences, Amity University highlighted the University’s strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and its proactive approach in leveraging DHR initiatives to drive impactful outcomes in clinical and health sciences. He further added, “The session enabled participants to better understand the scope, eligibility, and application processes of various DHR schemes. It also facilitated the resolution of queries, thereby supporting the development of high-quality, competitive research proposals aligned with national healthcare priorities.”

 

On this occasion, Dr. Khan interacted with the senior faculty members and scientists of Amity University. The visit underscores Amity University’s continued efforts to build strategic collaborations with government bodies and strengthen its position as a leading research-driven institution in the field of health sciences.
