A lecture on ‘Project Management in IT Industry’ was delivered by Mr Priyadarshi Nayak - Associate Consultant - TCS, London, UK. He shared theoretical as well as practical insights into Project Management and the day-to-day insights about the segment. He averred that a project is an activity that involves people from various segments involved in different activities from across geographies to achieve a common goal. Every project is unique in nature that goes through various stages depending upon its objective. Different tools and architecture is used to achieve the penultimate goal. Mr. Nayak shared the various stages of the project management life cycle including Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling and Closing.
He stated the software development lifestyle methodologies as a practical example with DevOps being the most current method being used. DevOps is a culture which promotes collaboration between Development and Operations team to deploy code to produce faster in an automated & repeatable way. In simpler words it can be defined as alignment of development and IT operations with better communication and collaboration. He shared the example of Amazon Web services using this method of DevOps. The DevOps Life Cycle includes stages comprising of Planning, Coding, Building, Testing, Release, Deployment, Operation and Monitoring that are continuous in nature. Other methods include Agile, Lean, Waterfall, Iterative and Spiral method. He detailed these software development methodologies and their pros and cons.
