A webinar on ‘Leadership During Crisis Management’ was conducted by Air Commodore - Nitin Sathe - Trainer & Coach. The Best in the Leader comes out during the times of crisis and the webinar highlighted what it takes to be successful Leader during crisis. He shared that he never went to college and learnt a lot when he joined the armed forces right after school. He averred that ‘Life is like a grindstone. Whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends upon what you are made of’. He shared the instance of 2004 when a massive earthquake caused colossal destruction and tsunamis across the globe and Car Nicobar islands. The entire island was littered with debris, carcasses etc that depicted tales of destruction and devastation. He shared the journey of the rescue mission he was a part of.
The waves had caused huge damage all across the islands. He shared the Rescue, Relief & Rehabilitation done by him and his team. He stated how life in the initial days of the mission was laced with no power, water and no home to stay and how his team of 70 people cleared the debris and cleaned up for the rescue mission to pick up pace. With just one satellite phone with them and lack of resources, Air Commodore Sathe took the planning, coordination & Execution of Complex issues. He also talked about Logistics Management to get the essential supplies as soon as possible without thinking of costs; Human issues and Morale, Motivation & Hygiene. He shared various experiences of the rescue mission and the post traumatic care he and his team had to go through.
