Challenges to Human Space Exploration

A session on 'Challenges to Human Space Exploration' was conducted by Dr. George Salazar - Human Computer Interface Technical Discipline Lead - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He stated that Human space is not only about technical skills that make your project successful but it is also about understanding human psychology and helping people. Earlier Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and space shuttle were the past human spaceflight programs. Currently, everyone is working for the phased approach to Mars. Scientists are working on the moon program for living from a long period of time in terms of technology and making sure that humans are safe not only physically but also psychologically. Moon and earth are very far from each other and our astronauts must learn to live and work on their own without the help of mission control. Microgravity environment provides an opportunity to conduct unique science experiments. Space station needs to design that technology experiments could be conducted. He stated that we have to conduct human behaviour and health experiments for space station because you may find difficulty when coming back to earth from space. Commercial crew program is the first-ever commercial space program which opens a new world in commercialization of space. It provides transportation to the space station which is a partner in the Artemis program. Space mission complexity of the system makes it likely that some essential feature will be overlooked. We human are not like robots and we need water, air, food, & sunlight. Mission space is a long-term thing and you have to be prepared to stay away from your family for long and these are some type of challenges which humans can face.
