Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) fosters interdisciplinary research through specialized research centres and Centres of Excellence that unite diverse fields such as AI, biotechnology, environmental sciences, and social sciences to address complex challenges. It supports this ecosystem with advanced shared infrastructure, seed funding, and workshops that promote collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Through strong industry–academia and global partnerships, along with integration into academic programs, AUUP encourages faculty, PhD scholars, and researchers to engage in impactful cross-disciplinary research. We are very well connected to FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, DST, DBT, MHRD, and professional institutions and bodies to organize high-level conferences and events.

Initiatives to define Interdisciplinary Research Support:

  1. Interdisciplinary Academic Pathways: Amity University has established comprehensive interdisciplinary programs across over 400 courses that integrate teaching, research, and curriculum design to address complex global challenges. The university employs a highly structured Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and a Flexible Credit System to drive its interdisciplinary teaching model. This approach allows students to move beyond their primary major and customize their degrees with diverse subjects. Students can also choose Single Major, Double Major, or Single Major with Minor Tracks, which are pre-designed sets of interdisciplinary courses. The university's system is designed to break traditional silos by allowing students to select from three main types of courses:
    • Core Courses: Provide the necessary foundational knowledge in a student's chosen major.
    • Domain Electives: Allow for deeper specialization within the primary field of study.
    • Open Electives: Enable students to pick subjects from completely unrelated disciplines to broaden their perspective.
  2. Core Teaching & Curriculum Strategies: Amity moves away from "compartmentalized" learning by offering a curriculum that encourages students to connect ideas across different fields through an integrated curriculum and flexible academic structure. The university encourages students to choose courses across disciplines, offering innovative combinations and promoting faculty collaboration. Specialized interdisciplinary programs include BBA in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (AI, IoT, Blockchain, Management, and Data Analytics). AUUP implements NEP 2020 guidelines, using a "Learning Outcomes Curriculum Framework" (LOCF) to ensure interdisciplinary skills align with industry needs.
  3. Faculty & Research Integration: Teaching at Amity is heavily informed by its interdisciplinary research environment. Faculty members participate in research clusters and collaborative workshops to refine their pedagogical approaches. Dedicated centers like the Amity Centre for Inter-Disciplinary Research (ACIDR) and the Amity Centre of Artificial Intelligence provide physical spaces for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Number of faculty developmental programmes have been organised to support research and development initiatives.

  1. Research-Led Teaching & Student Innovation: Interdisciplinary learning at Amity is often project-based, leading to significant real-world outputs. Students are encouraged to work on cross-domain challenges. Notable examples include India's first tri-fuel car and an Intelligent Smart Trolley system for smart cities.
  2. Industry Integration and Global Mobility: The teaching model focuses on "industry readiness" through mandatory internships and corporate interaction via Corporate Mentoring, Global Credit Transfer, and Technology Transfer. The interdisciplinary model bridges the gap between theory and practical application, helping students develop "21st-century skills" such as design thinking and ethical responsibility. Graduates are trained to approach complex societal and global issues, such as climate change and cybersecurity, from multiple perspectives.
  1. Academic & Research Collaborations across Interdisciplinary Research Themes: Interdisciplinary projects are assessed based on engagement with industry, government bodies, and international institutions.
    • MoUs and joint ventures with organizations in healthcare, defence, AI, sustainable energy, and biotechnology reflect research success.
    • Amity has signed 300+ strategic collaborations, including 116 national and 41 international MoUs, fostering knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research. In 2024, Amity University signed 157 MoUs (116 national and 41 international), forging partnerships with premier institutions such as ICAR, CSIR, DRDO, CCRUM, AIIMS, and global universities including Colorado State University (USA), University of York (UK), and Pukyong National University (South Korea). These collaborations have enabled joint Ph.D. programs, co-authored research publications, faculty exchanges, technology transfer, and capacity building. Through alliances with industry leaders like Wipro, Merck Life Sciences, Infosys, and Tata Group, Amity has introduced industry-aligned programs and real-world exposure for students. The university’s ongoing collaboration efforts continue to drive impactful research, innovation, and skill development, positioning Amity University as a globally networked academic powerhouse.

Outcome:
