Amity University Uttar Pradesh has a career promotion system that recognizes interdisciplinary research within applicable disciplines.
Amity University is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research. We employ a robust career promotion system known as Annual Performance Review (APR) that acknowledges and rewards such endeavours. Our faculty progression framework emphasizes research impact, funding, and collaborations, explicitly valuing interdisciplinary outputs. Assessment criteria include publications in high-impact journals, patents, and funded research projects, with specific consideration for projects that bridge multiple disciplines. We also have internal collaborative research clusters designed to encourage interdisciplinary work, ensuring that faculty receives due recognition for their diverse contributions.
The Annual Performance Review (APR) system involves assessment of performance of each Faculty member in respect of the following assessment parameters grouped in two categories:
- Category-I: Teaching, Learning and Evaluation Related Activities. Co-Curricular, Extension, Professional Development
- Category-II: Research, Publications & Academic Contribution
Each assessment parameter is assigned with specific weightage marks. The system then calculates the final performance grading and rating of the faculty based on the assigned marks, which in conjunction with the total experience decides promotion of the individual faculty member.
The system is designed to recognise and promote the faculty members based on their performance in interdisciplinary research. AUUP has a framework that recognizes and promotes interdisciplinary research, as evident from the following policy guidelines:
- G-53: University Research Policy Guidelines’: The university acknowledges the pivotal role of interdisciplinary research in driving innovation and excellence. To foster this, faculty members engaged in interdisciplinary research are appointed to key University-level committees, where they mentor peers, facilitate industry collaborations, and lead training initiatives. This strategic approach enables them to contribute significantly to the institution's growth.
- G-56: Policy Guidelines of Funding for Research ’: Proposals are evaluated based on several criteria, including collaborative research projects that integrate multiple disciplines to address complex problems or create innovative solutions with potential impact across fields.
A recent notable example of our interdisciplinary research initiative is the Amity Centre for Cognitive Science (ACCS), which brings together diverse disciplines spanning technology, natural and applied sciences, such as Philosophy, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Mathematics, Psychology, and Computer Science into one unified discipline. ACCS bridges neuroscience and computational sciences and addresses India-specific challenges like bilingual education and regional language processing.
The University thus recognizes faculty contributions in interdisciplinary research through strategic initiatives, including elevating them to advisory/mentoring roles, offering incentives, and providing research funding to drive impactful collaborations.
The list includes faculty members from various Amity institutions who've collaborated on interdisciplinary research, resulting in publications, projects, and patents. Areas of collaboration include physiotherapy with breast cancer and biomedical engineering, travel and tourism with IT and sustainability, hospitality management with sustainable design and energy efficiency, IT with environmental science and medical research, nuclear science with radiochemistry, and nanomedicine with AI. These collaborations span multidiscipline within Amity and with institutes like University of Memphis, LETI University Russia, and others.
